Circle History - St. Bridget Circle - est. appx. 1974
The St. Bridget Circle was
formed in the mid 70’s possibly 1974. We
chose this name because most of the original members belonged to St. Bridget
Church. Members of our circle past and
present are: Nancy Burt, Alberta DeVita, Pam Cochran, Pat Corning, Barbara
Cotton, *Marianne Forest, Mary Gurry, Terry James, Mary Jo Koenig, Marilyn
Price, Judy Purcell, *Ruth Raisis, *Margie Rose, *Sally Ryan, Kathy Schober,
Beth Taylor, *Anne Weber, Nancy Wagner, *Margaret Wright. Those with * by their name are original
members who are still active.
Henny Kiefner urged some of
the younger women of St. Bridget Parish to start a circle. We were neighbors, friends through church and
parents of children attending Assumption School. Henny was very persuasive in helping us to
get organized.
Our first project was a Bake Sale. I think that our most memorable activity was publishing a cookbook entitled Heirloom Recipes from Friends and Family. Marilyn Price headed this project. We had two printings of the bookbook. We thought it was very successful. We also had an end of the year progressive dinner with husbands included. It was always great fun, went very late, always on a Saturday evening, creating very tired church goers in the back pews the next norming. We still have our end of year party, much toned down, but still great fun.
Now we have a plant and card sale the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The plants are our paper white narcissus. A very gifted photographer, Connie Hokanson, generously donates her time, talent and the proceeds of her card sale to our circle. Her beautiful note cards are photos of the tulip festival in LaConner, Seattle scenes, UW campus and many more lovely sights of Seattle. We continue to enjoy our yearly Christmas party, auction, raffle and card sale and we prepare meals for the University District Youth Community.
We all are lifelong friends. We have shared much happiness together and supported one another through sadness and hardship. We are a remarkable group of women.
