Circle History - Henny Kiefner Circle - est.
Originally Henny lived on
Capital Hill and wanted to join the Elizabeth Gerbel Circle. She was told that the Elizabeth Gerbel Circle
membership was closed. A group of
Henny’s friends from the Capital Hill area were starting a new circle. Henny was not present for their first
meeting, but when she enquired later about the meeting they said, “We are now a
new circle and we named it the Henny Kiefner Circle.
Later Henny moved to the
Laurelhurst area and St. Bridget parish.
The Henny Kiefner Circle traveled with her to Laurelhurst and is now
associated more with that area of town. In
the 1990s members were: Ann Brown, June Butler, Marsha Chism, Alice Daeuble,
Billy Costello, Norma DiJulio, Orvie Frisbie, Eileen Hicks, Cecile Horton,
Rebecca Johnson, Henny Kiefner, Betty Liddle, Margaret McCarthy, Aileen
McGinnis, Mary Mitchell, Mary Ellen Mundt, Helen Naughton, Virginia Mullins,
Mary Nadeau, Catherine Owens, Katherine Ruddy, Maribeth Spelman, Dot Schmidt,
Margaret Shuham, Dorothy Zeigen. Many of
these members have died, but the work that they started is being continued by
younger women.
- *In 2008 Henny Kiefner Circle offers an uninterrupted effort to
work, play and pray together as they raise funds and awareness for
neglected children.
- *Henny and her circle members were dynamos of action. They were very supportive of all
Association activities. They had
luncheons, played bridge, held small auctions, participated in Fantasy
Fair and sold hundreds of calendars.
Henny recently said that they sold as many as 700 calendars each
year. She said that now she only
sells about 50 calendars. Could it be
that she is slowing down a bit .
