Circle History - Francis Hoffman Circle II- est. 1961
Two members of the Josephine
McDermott Circle I, Millie Abrams and Olive Carroll, were urging their
daughters Frances Abrams Bradley and Sharon Carroll Hardies to form a new
circle. In the spring of 1961 Fran and
Sharon and their classmates of Forest Ridge Convent class of 1956 formed the
second Frances Hoffman Circle.
Charter members were Patty
Lough Mitchell, Patty Barrett Geraghty, Cornelia (Pinky) Kearney Brindle,
Kathleen Maloney Twohy and Vollea Brindle Ostlaund. Soon Arlene Boulanger, Midge O’Brien, Sharon
McDonald and Jan Stibre joined them.
As the years passed, new members were added as others became inactive. In the early 1960s the St. Vincent Pallotti Circle was started by another class of Forest Ridge graduates. One of their members was in Rome for the canonization of St. Vincent, an Italian social worker, and his name was selected by the newly formed circle. In 1975 the St. Vincent Palotti Circle merged with Frances Hoffman Circle. Two St. Vincent Pallotti members were Pat Thenell and Celine O’Leary.
Since inception, Frances Hoffman Circle II members have been vigorously active in raising funds for neglected children. Their most memorable activities have been Fantasy Fair, calendar sales, a Christmas dinner-auction, an annual farm breakfast and most recently, the Labor of Love on-line auction.
